Weekly Veggie Box

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are a few answers to some common questions. Don't hesitate to get in touch if your question wasn't answered here.

Q: What does "CSA" stand for, and what does it mean ?

"CSA" stands for "Community Supported Agriculture".

It is a food system that brings farmer and consumer closer together by establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between them. You provide your farmer with a stable and recurring income early in the season (when he needs it most), and in return you are guaranteed a share of his harvest as it becomes available for the whole season. It's that simple. If visuals are more your thing, here is a great video that talks about what CSA is all about, and what it means for you, your farmer, and your community.

Ever wonder who was farming the food you and your family are eating? How and where it was grown, or even how long ago it was harvested, stored and transported? With us, there's no need to wonder! If you ever have a question about any of our food, your farmer is just a phone call or email away.

Q: What is a "CSA share" ?

It's a portion of our harvest on a given week of the season that is reserved for our CSA members. Here's how it works:

  1. You pay a CSA membership fee
  2. We harvest the vegetables and put them in a box
  3. You pick up your box once a week

It's a great way to get fresh, locally-grown, healthy produce! We call our CSA shares the "Weekly Veggie Box" for clarity's sake (that, and it sounds cool).

Q: What are the perks of signing up for the whole season ?

We appreciate our CSA members' loyalty, and we like to repay them in a number of ways:

  • First dibs on our fresh, locally and ecologically grown produce
  • An extra 10% of our produce averaged over the course of the season
  • A weekly newsletter specifically written for our Weekly Veggie Box subscribers
  • The opportunity to be involved in the success and continuation of our farm operation
  • An invitation to our CSA party to celebrate our members and other partners
  • The opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes tour of the farm
Q: What if I can't afford the full amount right now?

We understand our Weekly Veggie Box program can represent a significant up-front investment, so we've arranged for our members the option to pay in multiple instalments if they so choose.

Q: What vegetables can I expect ?

Keep in mind that due to seasonality, the first two Weekly Veggie Boxes are typically leaner in content than later ones. However, we do take that into account and balance them out so that you get more than your money's worth by the end of the season.

Q: Can I get more veggies from you at the farmers' market to supplement my Box?

Of course! You can even get a Pre-paid Market Share so you won't have to carry your wallet with you when you pick up your Weekly Veggie Box! If you'd rather just pay cash at the market, we can do that too.

Q: How big is a Weekly Veggie Box ?

The Half Box is sized for 1 veggie lover or for 2 people. The Full Box is sized for 2 veggie lovers or a family of 3 to 4 people. Please note that even though some of our veggies are "ready to eat" and are rather delicious raw, you should expect to be doing some cooking over the course of the season.

Q: Can I swap out some vegetables when I pick up?

We understand that there are circumstances where you may want to swap out some vegetables. We will have a "Swap box" waiting for you when you pick up your Weekly Veggie Box from which you can swap out one of your vegetables. We do ask that members limit themselves to one swap so as to ensure fairness towards other members.

Q: What if I go on vacation or am unable to pick up my Box?

You can make alternate arrangements for up to two weeks (and they don't have to be consecutive). We simply require that you notify us at least one (1) week before your planned vacation in order to make the proper arrangements.

Here are your options:

  1. You can "donate" your Box to a friend or family member who would pick it up in your stead. All they have to do is drop your name and off they go.
  2. You can convert the value of that week's Box into a credit towards the total cost of a CSA share for the following season (for a maximum of two weeks).
  3. You can convert the value of that week's Box into a credit towards purchasing additional produce at retail during that same season (for a maximum of two weeks).

Please be advised that there is no cash value associated with these credits, and that they will not be reimbursed if forfeited.

Q: What if I miss my pick-up?

If you are not able to pick up your share at the arranged time and place, notify us as soon as possible so that we can make alternate arrangements with you. However, if you do not notify us on the day you missed your pick-up, your share will be promptly "recycled" in some way or other (such as donating it to a not-for-profit group or program that tackles food security issues in the community).
